Last year, I wrote a post about the Immaculate Conception of Mary. It provoked an interesting discussion among my blog readers. I'm not sure that I feel any differently now than I did then. I guess I find it very difficult to embrace this dogma as dogma. It seems to come down to an issue of authority and whether one can believe the Pope with the Magisterium can speak infallibly on this doctrinal matter. This could be the main reason I could not be Roman Catholic. (And anyone who knows me knows that I have GREAT respect for Roman Catholicism and am thankful for all that I've learned from it).
And, Rome could be correct on this teaching. It makes sense. The question I wrestle with is how do I know?
Update: I forgot to mention this earlier but I could feel much better about this dogma if the Orthodox Church was in agreement as well. However, it appears that Rome is alone on this one.
Pax.
