The Gray Friars

I ran across a book today while I was at the local Catholic bookstore that was about the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, a relatively new Franciscan order. From a handful of men 20 years ago, the order has grown rapidly, seeing new vocations each year. Perhaps there's something for religious orders to learn from the story of the Gray Friars?

I thought this video was great of new candidates on the streets of New York City.

That guy has a pretty good Johnny Cash sound going on!

I also read this article from the NY Times that gives a nice overview of their work and life. They seem to have a renewed vigor for the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience or as they put it "No bling-bling, no sweet thing, Christ is King." That makes me laugh . . . every time.

Of course, they do have a website. It didn't seem to be working today but check it out when you can.

I guess that's it. Just found these friars fairly interesting. Peace.
